The year is 1958. Mrs. Miriam (aka Midge) Maisel is a gorgeous, Jewish homemaker living in the Upper East Side, New York City, with her two kids in a complex marriage. She is also very close to her parents, who play an integral part of her life. Miriam, by chance, decides to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian.
On December 6th, the third season of Amazon Prime's series, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, premieres and I am so excited! If you haven't had a chance to watch this series yet, Season 2 had 1.9 million viewers alone and won several Golden Globe awards, and with good reason.
Filmed with wonderful cinematography, an incredible cast and a comical story line, it is really worth watching this series because it is an ideal, 1950's period piece. (For those of you who haven't seen the series yet, Season 1 and 2 can be binge-watched now on Amazon Prime now. Parental discretion is advised.)
The set designs are incredible -- featuring pink rooms, vintage kitchens with Pyrex, and period piece furniture. I have been feeling a huge VOID since the mid-century modern classic Mad Men ended a few years ago so I'm so happy I can watch a current, 1950's-style TV fix again - hooray!
Mrs Maisel, aka Midge, who is played by the gorgeous, Rachel Brosnahan, wears vivid colours and wonderful jewelry. I LOVE this photo of her in stunning teal, one of my favourite colours. She is standing alongside with her mother Rose, right, played by Marin Hinkle, wearing a stunning green suit, with gray and gold accessories.
Since Peppermint Twist Vintage focuses on vintage jewelry, let's showcase some of the treasures that we carry in our shop that would definitely be approved by the wardrobe department. You can add a little bit of Mrs Maisel flair to your current style!
First, these are lovely, TEAL cabochon rectangular, vintage thermoset clip-on earrings available for purchase.
Or these round, stunning cabochon, thermoset earrings hallmarked by Coro.
Rose Weissman, Mrs. Maisel's mom wears this wonderful green dress and here are some great accessories that would match this colour well.
We carry many subtle, blue earrings to compliment a dress like this including these stunning vintage, plastic faux pearl blue and grey earrings from the 1950's.
If blues and greens are not your style, Mrs. Maisel often wears wonderful black dresses that are so elegant that are complimented by white accessories. We have this wonderful faux pearl earrings and necklace set that looks great in black.
In addition, raving RED is a great colour that looks fantastic. We carry red vintage jewelry that looks great and is very versatile.
Lastly, cuff links were a wardrobe staple in the 1950's for men and we sell some wonderful ones that are perfect for men! Abe Weissman, Mrs Maisel's father, played by the incredible Tony Shalhoub is quite a funny character in the series.
Abe tells a lot of great one liners, is a caring father, dresses very well and on a few occasions, talks about how his cuff links are missing. Men should wear cuff links more often and we have some great ones to chose from. First off, this pair incredible Christian Dior Cufflinks from the mid century are truly spectacular.
Alternately, we have several cuff links to chose from that would make a great gift for men who often dress up dress shirts or at parties. These 1960s SWANK cufflinks with the box are extra special.
We have lots of cuff links to chose from including green, tiger eye and other styles. So check out our CUFF LINK Collection.
Although she is not the family member in the show, I can't forgot the wonderful role of Susie Myerson, performed by the wonderful Alex Borstein. Susie is Mrs. Maisel's manager in the series. Although she wears masculine clothing, her own unique style with the vintage biker cap and striped shirts is very unique, yet stylish.
We carry a vintage unisex cap, similiar to what Susie wears.. just one left. It's vintage and suits this style.
In summary, if you are looking for wonderful accessories, remember, we have blue, red, black, pink, teal and grey accessories for all of your shopping needs. Just look at the wide array of colours in this family shot of Mrs. Maisel with her parents. We have jewelry for any of these fabulous styles!
Lastly, I leave you with this wonderful quote from the show. After my years in a corporate world, I am living my dream, writing this blog, trying to run a small business and promoting what I love dearly - vintage treasures.
Mrs. Maisel's husband, Joel, played by Michael Zegen said it best " Do you know what a dream is? A dream is what keeps you going in a job you hate!"
I wish I could personally thank Amy Sherman-Palladino, the writers, actors, set designers and Amazon Prime for bringing 1950s everything back as a modern world TV show! Hopefully peppermint-twist-vintage.com can help you add a little Marvelous Mrs Maisel flair to your own personal wardrobe!
